Eighty-one junior golfers experienced their first round at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach yesterday. The first round can be full of excitement and nerves as the juniors tee up alongside some of the greats of the game for the official Champions Tour tournament.
Gypsie Hutchinson from The First Tee of Lexington is paired with Champions Tour player Gary Hallberg this week. She gives an inside look at their first round played at Poppy Hills.
As I stood up on the first tee, I looked around at what surrounded me, a beautiful golf course, my family and my new mentor. I thought about how I got here and what I have had to do to reach this moment right now. Long hours of practicing and playing, and standing in front of a video camera making sure I know what to say if interviewed or asked about The First Tee. It has been a long journey but it has been one that I will never forget. Now I am here standing on the First Tee, standing over my ball ready to hit.
Gary Hallberg is a simple man but full of wisdom. He is definitely a lot of fun to play with. After we began our round I used my favorite core value judgement all around the golf course.
I cannot thank Nature Valley and The First Tee enough for giving me this amazing opportunity. I am so excited to play Pebble Beach tomorrow with my pro, I love that there is a view at every corner. I would also like to thank TaylorMade for donating bags that are easy to carry around the golf course.
Gypsie and her pro partner Gary Hallberg play at Pebble Beach for their second round. They teed off at 7:26 a.m. PT.
After the first round, Jack Avrit from The First Tee of the Central Coast and his pro Mark O’Meara, posted a 10-under 61 at Poppy Hills Golf Course and lead the pro-junior competition by four over Paul Goydos and Spencer Tibbits from The First Tee of Greater Portland.
