Jack Kane, a participant at The First Tee of Connecticut, was happy enough just sitting on a TV set next to Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman. However, when she surprised him with the news that he would be attending the 2015 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, he was at a loss for words!
“I can’t believe the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is only a few short days away! It feels like just yesterday I was assisting my chapter president, Mr. David Polk, in the midst of Travelers Championship. Little did I know that day would become memorable. I’ve counted down the days since Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman delivered the news I’d been waiting so anxiously for: “You’re heading to Pebble Beach.” Rarely in my life can I say that I have been speechless, but in that special moment, words escaped me.
Ever since being selected, I have been preparing for the challenges that I’ll face in California. Both Pebble Beach and Poppy Hills present unique challenges I have yet to encounter. My perseverance will be tested when I’m facing a 5-footer down the slope for par. However, I’m confident in my ability to block out distractions on the course and simply execute the correct shot.
In these past few days, my nerves have been escalating. If I didn’t feel anxious in this moment would I even be human? I’ll do my best to compose myself and play to the best of my abilities. I’m grateful for The First Tee and all the great opportunities granted to me through it. I’m looking forward to a great week of golf and memories that will last a lifetime.”
